We celebrated our Nation’s 250th with a Reading of the Declaration of Independence, bike parade, and ice cream social!
Pocopson Residents and Friends gathered on June 21st at Barnard Station and the Township Building for our very own Dare to Declare Event co-sponsored by Friends of Barnard Station and the Pocopson Parks, Recreation and Trails Committee.
The Board of Supervisors accepted on behalf of our residents, a gift of an America 250th Flag presented by the Chester County Commission which now waves proudly beneath the American Flag at our Township Building. We then all gathered round for a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence read by Pocopson’s own Robert Miller.
Historic Barnard Station was open to the public, showing off its beautiful new restoration work and exhibits and Historic Locust Grove School House was also open to the public.
Everyone reveled in the live old-time music by Clare Milliner and Friends, and many of us added our heartfelt wishes for our Nation to the Chester County Foundation’s 250th Birthday Wishing Wall.
The kids had a ball decorating their bikes in Red, White, and Blue and we all thoroughly enjoyed their fantastic Bike Parade! This was all topped off with an old-fashioned Ice Cream social featuring own Baily’s Vanilla Ice Cream topped with fresh strawberries and blueberries.
Thanks to the Chester County Commission and the Chester County Foundation for providing us with the resources to bring Dare to Declare forward and to all our wonderful volunteers who made this day so very special.
