A Joyful Celebration of Community and Tradition

Firstly, a huge thank you to our generous Businesses Sponsors, Raffle Donors, In-Kind Donors, Volunteers, and township staff! We couldn’t bring Founders Day to our residents without your support. We are proud to have such a strong community!
Residents and friends couldn’t have asked for a more glorious day with wonderful live music by the Rolling Doubles, Ice Cream by our own Baily’s Dairy and Great Food by On the Roll. Many enjoyed bus rides to the historic Barnard Station and Locust Grove School House, and all had fun participating in crafts, games, and playing with pups at the many local vendors, and we hope you will support our local partners.
Everyone enjoyed seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Kids loved the donut eating contest, adults the apple peeling contest, and the dogs were happily on parade for our silly pet contests. Every entry was a winner!
Children enjoyed the kid’s area with bouncy houses, pony rides, and face painting, and activities and at the end of the day everyone went home tired and happy.
We had a great raffle this year with wonderful prizes like a Weber Grill from Ace Hardware, an arbor donated by Fence Authority, a beautiful Southern Magnolia Tree donated by Blue Stone Nursery, and many more. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to everyone for participating.
Pocopson township values the input you shared regarding our upcoming 10-year Comprehensive Plan that we are partnering with the Brandywine Conservancy to bring forward to you our residents next year. Please see our website for more information or to share your thoughts.
Founders Day is organized by the Parks, Recreation, and Trails Committee with the support of volunteers, staff, and the Board of Supervisors. The PRT committee welcomes new members; we meet on the second Thursday of the month at 7pm at the township office.
Ready for some fun? Enjoy great local food, live music by the Rolling Doubles, a great raffle, and fun activities for all ages. Kids will love the many bouncy houses, games, and pony rides. Don’t miss the fun contests! The famous kids Donuthon-donut eating contest, Pet costume & trick contests, or the try your hand at the Apple Peeling Contest. Explore our history at the Locust Grove School House and the newly restored Barnard Station-an underground railroad site.

Community members were quick to share their appreciation for last year’s Founders Day. One attendee wrote,
“I just wanted to reach out and say thank you. This was the first year that we came out to Founder’s Day and it was a really nice event. My kids had a great time. We will definitely attend next year.”
