Drought Warning Issued for Chester County

The Commonwealth Drought Task Force has continued the Drought Warning for Chester County. A drought warning indicates that:

  • Abnormally dry conditions persist.
  • Fire hazards are elevated.
  • Natural water supplies are declining.

Residents and businesses are asked to voluntarily reduce non-essential water use by 10% to 15%, which equates to approximately 6 to 9 gallons per household per day.

Water conservation measures may include:

  • Limiting lawn watering.
  • Reducing vehicle washing.
  • Avoiding unnecessary outdoor water use.
  • Repairing leaking faucets and fixtures.

Conserving water now helps protect local water supplies during continued dry conditions.

July 4th Fireworks Safety Reminder

With dry conditions across the region and increased fire danger, residents are urged to use extra caution during Independence Day celebrations. Residents are reminded to:

  • Attend professional fireworks displays whenever possible.
  • Follow all Pennsylvania laws regarding the purchase and use of consumer fireworks.
  • Never use fireworks near dry grass, wooded areas, fields, or other combustible materials.
  • Keep a bucket of water, hose, or fire extinguisher readily available.
  • Never relight malfunctioning fireworks.
  • Dispose of used fireworks by soaking them thoroughly in water before placing them in the trash.
  • Closely supervise children around all fireworks and sparklers.

Even small sparks can ignite dry vegetation and quickly lead to grass or brush fires during drought conditions.

Pocopson Township wishes everyone a safe, enjoyable, and responsible Fourth of July holiday. Please take precautions to protect yourself, your family, and our community during this period of extreme heat and dry weather.
